Arriving in Playita anchorage, Panama City

We had a boisterous sail from Isla Contadora in Las Perlas. It was a real eye opener coming into Panama City as the skyline is full of tall buildings. It's been a long time since we've seen that. These tugs are anchored awaiting instructions for helping boats in the canal. There were freighters anchored everywhere!
This is the view from Fortuitous in Playita anchorage. Freighters come and go all hours of the day as the channel leading to the canal passes right by here.

Anchoring here was no fun at all. In this photo it is nice and calm, but you can see there are lots of boats. It looks like lots of room, now, but it didn't appear that way when we came in.

It was blowing at least 25 kts. with higher gusts. Fortuitous doesn't care to back up in a straight line. With all these boats, that becomes a bit of a worry for the helmsman (that would be Cheryl). I would have been happy to just carry on back to Vancouver, at this point, or anchor on the edge of the freighter channel. Our friend John, on Nakia, came out and showed us a good spot where a boat had just left. We dropped anchor there, and may never leave again!!
