Rio Dulce, Guatemala May 2011

From Roatan, we headed to The Rio Dulce, Guatemala. There, we checked in, in Livingston, and headed up the Rio to Monkey Bay Marina where we will keep Fortuitous for hurricane season.

The Rio is very tropical, as you can see.

Temperature is in the 30's (90+ F) and the humidity is the same.

Fortuitous med moored in Monkey Bay.

The view from the lounge area of the marina.

Fortuitous, almost ready to spend the season.

Ralph had to go up the mast to plug holes to protect us from bees. We'd had them before, didn't want to go there again. This is the view of the marina from above.

The lounge area viewed from the top of the mast.

Looking down of the deck of Fortuitous.

A self portrait of Ralph, taken at the top of the mast. Now time to head off, to Guatemala City and fly home.

These are the flavelas in Guatemala City...no roads, no water, some with electricity.  There are a lot of poor people in this country.

A taxi driver gave us a tour of downtown. The hotel owner said it wasn't recommended for us to go downtown alone.

Peanuts or pigeons anyone?

Lorraine, from SV Zephyrus was leaving to return to the US on the same day as we were, so we travelled to Guat City together.

Notice the fancy, lacy aprons. They are just amazing!
