Tehuantepec Crossing March 2008

We left Huatulco on a “good weather window”, so the weather router said…well, this is Zephyrus, along side of us, and this is not the kind of weather WE like to sail in!! The photo doesn’t do it justice. At one point, we had up a little too much sail and mother nature gave us a little slap…down…no railing in the water, but close enough for some very rude words from me!!!
All looks calm now, doesn’t it? It’s amazing what that wind can do. It is created by high pressure in the Caribbean and low in the Pacific. It causes the high to feed the low through the skinny little low-land in the Tehuantepec.
As well as wind, you have to keep your eyes open for these guys.
Looks like a bad hair day to me!!
Also have to keep your eyes peeled for these guys. It was a 6 nighter for us as we had a tranny fluid cooler breakdown. We had buddy boats Zephyrus and Nakia standing by, so we felt OK. The guys put their heads together, came up with a jury-rig, and resumed our trip 6 or so hours later.
Another beautiful sunset.
This is Nakia with her drifter up. A lovely sight!
A sunrise, for a change.
