Leticia

So, since we had some energy and time left before we had to return to Cartagena, we decided to book a trip to Leticia and the Amazon. This had been what we really wanted to do anyway.  Those of you who know me well will find it hard to believe that it was I who suggested this trip. I'm not one for roughing it and, somehow, I must have thought I wouldn't be.  Little did I know!!  That being said, we are both really glad we went.  We arrived in Leticia on a Sunday and all the tour centres were closed. We wandered around and checked into a hotel that was recommended to us by a tourist agent at the airport.

Unfortunately, we were here at the beginning of the rainy season. We knew that, but the good months are July and August and we would never be doing this trip then. So, we headed to the Amazon anyway.  After all, we'd seen rain before!

We hired a cab (driver taking the photo of us) and went for a little tour of town, and Tabatinga (the Brazilian town right next to it). This is an area without borders. The whole river area here includes Peru, Colombia, and Brazil.
This is the Amazon and the riverboats that ply her waters.
This shot was actually taken after our tour of the Amazon, but we did see rain before we left. Motorcycles are the most common means of transportation, but there are cars. There are no roads into or out of the Leticia area.
Here this poor guy is carrying stalks of bananas from the port to a vendor.

Yes, we've seen rain before...Vancouver....Cartagena...but never rain like this!!
