Now I've moved on to my trip to Loreto in Late April. I was originally scheduled to sing at the festival but my guitar back-up couldn't make it. So, I was left to soak up the sunshine, catch up with friends and drink margaritas...a hard life, but someone has to do it!! These little guys were climbing on this whale skull...a photo-op too good to pass up!
These young dancers entertained us at Loreto-fest. We felt so sorry for them, all dressed up and dancing in that heat!! They were excellent and had several dances and costume changes.
One of the events at Loreto-fest is a SPAM recipe contest. Somehow I ended up being a judge for this. Now, SPAM is one of my least favourite things to eat...ever since childhood. I had to test the recipes at about 8am on Sunday morning. Who really wants to eat unmentionable animal parts at any time of the day (let alone first thing in the morning!!). I believe, the one that got my vote got it only because the one fork-full I took didn't have any SPAM in it!!
As well as the SPAM recipe contest, there is also a SPAM art contest...now, this I can handle. Again, my choice didn't win! I really liked "SPAM-Bob Square Meal" (pictured here). The art beside that is "SPAM-Marley"...actually the winner from last years creations! They saved it for the whole year and, yes, it was dried out but not a speck of mould or anything! Proves that SPAM really does mean only SOME PARTS ARE MEAT!
This is a shot of some of the gang. Dan and Loraine (Zephyrus) in the foreground with Endeavour beside them. My hosts, Don and Marie (Freezing Rain) are second and third from the right. They put up with me for 2 solid weeks and not once did I hear them whine! Irv beat me at Crib...over and over, washed my feet and introduced me to some "Black Russians". Marie cooked for me and gave me my own room and bathroom...what more could a guest ask for!!
