La Popa, Cartagena

We were tired of working on Fortuitous so took a day off to visit La Popa. We thought that name referred to the Pope, but it actually refers to the shape of the hill which resembles the "poop deck" on a boat...that's what the name actually means in Spanish. This is the view from the hill looking out over Cartagena. That day there were 3 cruise ships in port. That's the day you DON'T want to vist the old historic city centre because the hawkers are in full force to get the other kind of cruisers.

This is the busy market area at the foot of the hill, or "Pied de la Popa".
Just a zoo of taxis and buses, as is the whole city.
At the top, there is a 400 year old convent, La Candelaria. The courtyard was lovely.
You have to love the bouganvilla!!

It's almost weed-like and is everywhere...but the colour!!!
